MALAYSIA RATIFIES THE ASEAN CONVENTION AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS, ESPECIALLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN (ACTIP), 7 SEPTEMBER 2017

Ratification ACTIPMalaysia deposited its instrument of ratification of the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP) with the ASEAN Secretariat today, 7 September 2017. Malaysia’s instrument of ratification was presented by H.E. Dato’ Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN to H.E. Hirubalan V P, Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for Political-Security Community.


The Convention, which was signed by the ASEAN Leaders on 21 November 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, entered into force on 8 March 2017. This ratification signifies Malaysia's steadfast solidarity with its ASEAN neighbours and commitment to its international obligations on anti-trafficking in persons, especially women and children. 


Malaysia strongly believes that ASEAN’s collective application of this convention and related instruments will foster closer cooperation and collaboration among the Member States in the fight against trafficking.
