13-14 NOVEMBER 2017

MANILA, PHILIPPINES

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak will be leading the Malaysian delegation to the 31st ASEAN Summit from 13 – 14 November 2017 in Manila, Phillippines. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by his wife, Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Sri Anifah Haji Aman; and Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed. The delegation will be composed of officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

The theme of the Republic of the Philippines’ Chairmanship is Partnering for Change, Engaging the World. It reflects the Philippine Government’s advocacy to promote unity among ASEAN Member States and with its global partners.

As this year marks the historical 50th anniversary of ASEAN, this 31st ASEAN Summit will be an opportune occasion for ASEAN Leaders to deliberate on the implementation of ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together, a roadmap for the region’s continuous community building efforts to ensure an integrated, peaceful, stable and resilient ASEAN Community.

The Summit will also give the leaders the opportunity to exchange views on the future direction of ASEAN and its conduct of external relations as well as important regional and international issues.

In addition, the Prime Minister together with other ASEAN leaders will also attend the ASEAN Plus Three summit; East Asia Summit; and other ASEAN Plus One Summits which involve Canada, European Union, United States, China, Republic of Korea, India, Japan and the United Nations, respectively.

ASEAN will also be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of its dialogue relations with the United States, Canada and the European Union and thus the Philippines, as Chairman of ASEAN, will be organising the Commemorative Summit with those dialogue partners, respectively. To celebrate ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary, the Philippines is expected to host the ‘Special Gala Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN’ on 12 November 2017.

The Prime Minister together with the other ASEAN Leaders are also scheduled to attend the Interface with ASEAN Business Advisory Council, the APT Leaders Interface with East Asia Business Council (EABC), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders Meeting.

The Prime Minister will be holding several bilateral talks with his counterparts from ASEAN and dialogue partners at the sidelines of the Summit.
